It’s easy to embed a poll onto your website. If your audience of respondents is on your news site or city website, they can vote straight from there without having to navigate to Polco. (Note that this feature is supported by browsers that allow third-party cookies. See below for details.)

Embedding is for a single poll question, not a poll set or survey, so that respondents can respond to a single question quickly and easily from your site.

To embed a poll, navigate to the Overview or Content tab in the left navigation bar of your Polco profile. Click on the poll set.

Next, click on the single poll question you’d like to embed.

On the right side under “Actions,” you’ll see a link that says “Share Poll.”

Click “Share Poll” and the embed code for the poll question will appear.

Copy and paste the embeddable HTML onto your site.

Once added to your site, the poll will appear:

On browsers that allow third-party cookies (such as Chrome), respondents will be able to select their answer, press “Submit,” and see their response. If the respondent is using a browser that does not support third-party cookies (such as Safari), they’ll select their response and be immediately redirected to Polco in a new tab with their choice pre-selected.

Keep in mind that when embedding a poll on your site, Polco’s commenting feature is not available. Respondents must answer the poll through Polco in order to comment. If the respondent navigates to Polco after responding, they’ll still be able to see their response.

With the default setting on Polco, respondents register for an account before submitting their response. They’ll see this prompt while still on your site. This helps you continue to build your standing panel of respondents for future polls.

If you choose to allow guest responses, the respondent will submit their response and see the results. They will not be prompted to register for Polco.

Can I embed polls on social media?

  • Short answer is no. You can embed a poll (but not a survey or live event) on any regular webpage. Beyond that, it would have to be a platform that would let you embed web content generally.

  • To our knowledge, Twitter/Facebook/etc. Do not allow embeddable and interact-able content. If you want the poll to display and be interactive, it has to use iframe HTML, which most website (and all social media) don’t let you do for security reasons. If you “own” a website and can change it, then you would likely be able to embed it there. Otherwise, it’s just a link.
